'Positive' Cardiff Conference Sees Launch of 5 Year Plan

22 June 2009

At a full house in Cardiff on Saturday (20th June) members endorsed the Trustees' plans for the future of RP Fighting Blindness, including growth in income, staffing, and a commitment to maintaining services as well as boosting medical research budgets.

Over four sessions, over 120 members enjoyed the annual Members' Conference - a day of interesting presentations and debate - and had the chance to meet staff and trustees of the charity. David Head, Chief Executive, said "The conference was very positive, and there was a great atmosphere amongst the delegates. The venue was excellent and our hosts - from our own Wales Branch - gave us a warm welcome."

The four sessions were (1) the formal AGM of the charity, at which members approved both the 2008 Trustees' Report, and the new 5 year plan setting out our plans to grow between now and the end of 2013. (2) The launch of our patient information DVD, a long awaited film produced in conjunction with Channel 4 TV, (3) a presentation from RNIB Wales on the issues faced by visually impaired people claiming benefits and (4) a presentation by Dr Lyndon Da Cruz of Moorfields Eye Hospital, on the use and prospects for artificial retinal implants, which are now in clinical trials.

The now approved 5 year plan is available by clicking on the download link at the foot of this article.

You can listen to recordings of all four sessions on the Chief Executive's Blog. CD recordings of the sessions are available on request from the office on 01280 821334.
